Just a reminder - PAWLOOZA this Saturday, August 19, 2017!!
Don't be surprised if a piece of fruit can bring some fun and entertainment! We tossed this apple core near our bird feeders and it wasn't long before this Chipmunk had his prize! We managed to capture a couple of videos and a few pics!
Water is a necessity for all creatures, great and small! As we've mentioned so often, water is an excellent way to attract the birds to your garden....and sometimes others!
When the weather is warm....you just never know who may pay your garden a visit!
PAWLOOZA...."Canada's Favourite Dog Festival" is happening Saturday, August 19, 2017!! It is also a chance for you to visit many great vendors and most-importantly, help some fabulous rescue organizations!!
Along with the other birds in our garden, we've certainly been enjoying the sights and sounds of the Cedar Waxwings. They are a gorgeous bird with a very unique sound....you will often hear them before you see them!
For all you Cat Lovers out there, shop early from these beautiful new designs of cat-themed kitchen towels!! You'll see some old favourites too that have all just arrived!
We're in what is usually the hottest period of the summer season. The last few days have been no exception with sun, humidity, warm temperatures and the threat of thunderstorms. If you want to give the birds and critters a hand, please offer fresh cool water any time that you can...they will definitely thank you with frequent visits to your garden!! And remember to change it often...."sitting" water is also attractive to mosquitoes!
Whether you are camping out away from home or simply enjoying a beautiful evening at home around a campfire, if you've never cooked over that fire with a Pie Iron, well....what can we say?? Some of the best meals, the most unbelievable creations , shared with family and friends, out of those simple Pie Irons....and we have them available!!! (Oh, and if you can't wait for your campfire, they can be used over a camp stove!!) Other items available too!!
We are now over a month in to the summer season...We are so delighted that our nectar feeders remain busy with constant visits from the Baltimore Orioles and their families!! Their antics and acrobatics around the feeders, in the trees and garden make us smile each day!
Happy "Healthy Parks Healthy People" day!! We are so blessed in Ontario to have such beautiful provincial parks, etc. for our use. Today is....Free day-use entry at provincial parks in Ontario.
Is it just us, or does there seem to be plenty more bunnies around the garden this year? Some of these guys are almost like pets, leaving it until the last minute to run from us....others run toward us as happened in the photo below!! Whatever it is, they sure so bring a smile....luckily, we do have plenty of weeds to keep them filled!!
We've had some rainy days, some sunny days. We've had some very warm days, some cooler days. No matter what time of year, what the weather, the birds are attracted to the garden by water...they need it! WATER - They drink it, they bathe in it, they splash in it....and oh the entertainment for all of us!!
Many bird species will have more than one brood over the course of the spring and summer. While these are the second inhabitants of this Robin nest, we, of course, can't be totally certain if the same pair moved in to this spot.
We do know that just a few days after the two "spring" Robins fledged, a female was back in the same nest, checking it out, adding some new pieces and making sure the fit was perfect! It wasn't long before she was spending more time there, incubating.
As it turns out, there is just one chick this time....but how fun it has been to follow the interactions. The feeding, the resting, the sitting all bring smiles when we take a few moments to watch the happenings!
Wishing everyone a very Happy Canada Day as we celebrate Canada 150!! Enjoy your weekend everyone!! We'll re-open on Monday, July 3rd 8:30am to 5:30pm.
Many more items to discover, plenty of local and lots Made in Canada! These products include but are not limited to: Handcrafted Soaps, Beeswax Candles, Soy Candles, Maple Syrup, Honey, Jams, Salted & Unsalted Peanuts, Pet Beds, Dog Food, Home Decor, Garden Decor & Cement Statuary, Metal Wall Murals, Black Oil Sunflower Seed & other Seeds, Bird Houses, Wooden Bird Feeders, Cleaning Products.....And so very much more!!
Did you know that all of our Bird Houses are made right here....in Ontario??!! While you may feel it is too late to add a birdhouse to your garden, you never know. Many species of birds have more than one brood and they don't always choose the same place to nest. Also, if they don't use the box this year, they may come back to use it next year!!
It is one of the best times of the year....Birds that have been nesting over the last several weeks soon bring their offspring to the trees & area around the feeders, then eventually to the feeders! Some of the most recent visitors have included the Red-bellied Woodpeckers. It is so very satisfying to see how quickly they find the food....especially when the feeder they are interested in has an extra barricade, like the cage we use & sell. No problem here figuring out how to get the peanuts!!
This year marks Canada's 150th....Are you ready to celebrate?? If you have travel plans this year, also great to include your "Canada" gear to show how proud you are of our country!! Reminder, we will be closed next Saturday, July 1 to celebrate Canada Day!
