COLD...has arrived...Along with a little SNOW!

We've been pretty lucky so far this winter....at least in S. W. Ontario! We haven't had much snow and the temperatures have been above normal...until now! Colder weather & a little snow have certainly brought lots of birds to our feeders and have provided for some great entertainment today! Cardinals, Chickadees, Juncos, Nuthatches, Woodpeckers, Blue Jays, Goldfinches, House Finches, Doves, American Tree Sparrows and others have all been frequent visitors and we are loving every minute. We've shared many photos all year long, it's very difficult to pick a favourite. It's always pretty special to welcome all birds to our garden & love when certain ones arrive. Once again this year, the Indigo Buntings made an appearance, so today we'll share a photo of one of them!

While Wild Bird Seed & Bird Feeders were offered for many years prior to 2004, it was then that we expanded our selection, offering it in our much larger front showroom, along with many other new items including gifts & food. The colour of the season

How could anyone not love a Cardinal? Their spectacular colour....in the evergreens, in the snow, in the sunset, on a branch...is like the ornaments on a tree, the jewels on a crown!! A Cardinal's tune is amazing and so recognizable...be sure to listen for it, especially loud in the early spring & summer. They'll bring a smile to one's face & joy to the heart!

They're definitely a favourite colour of this season!!

Welcome December, Welcome Monarchs for Swift Care Ontario!

It's the very first day of December and it is also GIVING TUESDAY!! We are delighted with the so very meaningful items that have just arrived!! The good folks at Swift Care Ontario have been busy in their workshop crafting these handmade Monarch Butterfly ornaments. Designed in fused glass, the ornaments are stunning....a gift that would mean so much....a reminder of all that's good in this world!! What could be more fitting for anyone on your list this gift-giving season!

Goodbye November

Wow...hard to believe we've reached the last day of November 2015! We're welcoming this November 30th with some lovely sunshine & frosty trees...a stunning start to the day. We've enjoyed many pretty birds at the feeders this month, not too many more fun to watch than the Red-bellied Woodpeckers!! Hoping December keeps them coming...have a fabulous day!!

A little snow, plenty of friends!!

It's truly amazing to have the beautiful birds visiting the garden and the bird feeders! Add a little snow and some cooler temperatures....you never know who might show up! This past week, the ground was covered with snow and the evening lows below zero celsius. We were rewarded with several beauties and many feeder visits....outdoor entertainment can't get much better than that during autumn in Canada! White-breasted Nuthatches.....so cute!

Project FeederWatch began this past weekend and we were so glad to have lots of visitors at our feeders....including the cute White-breasted Nuthatches! Along with the Red-breasted Nuthatches, these guys provide some of the best entertainment in the garden and at the feeders. Whether they are working away at the peanut feeders, making a quick stop at the seed feeders (including the Squirrel Buster Plus) or spotted in nearby trees, the fun is always non-stop!! Offer a peanut feeder in your garden and you just might have these guys making your garden their home!

Woodpeckers!!

We just love the constant visits of the Woodpeckers....pretty much throughout the year! The entertainment they provide brightens the day, their flights through the garden delight and their sounds are so much fun!! If you are thinking about getting in to feeding the birds that frequent your garden, a simple peanut feeder is often a great first choice. Many birds love peanuts and if you are worried about a mess under your feeder, there is none when you offer peanut halves. Lots of Visitors

We spent a few moments yesterday capturing several shots of our bird feeders (video shot today)....they were extremely busy over a short period of time! The Blue Jays started the parade with Black-capped Chickadees, Downy, Red-bellied & Hairy Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Finches, Cardinal, Juncos also making several visits to our garden & our feeders. It is truly amazing how many beautiful birds can visit in a short period of time. Had the Project FeederWatch season been in progress, it would have been a fabulous count day for us...hopefully all of these guys & more return when the FeederWatch season begins this weekend!! We also hope they appear on our count days! This is how easy it is to report the birds at your feeders - Sign up; Put up a feeder; Pick your count days; Observe & Record the species you see; Report online!! Enjoy your day!!

Count the birds that visit your feeders from November to April...fun & educational for the whole family and makes the winter season so enjoyable as you anxiously wait to see what bird species visit!! It's great to see & record all the birds that make your garden their home....easy too!

There's always so many fabulous activities offered by many - conservation areas, provincial parks, etc. This weekend is no exception....It is once again time for Ausable-Bayfield's "Owl Prowl"!! What fun is this...for the whole family!
